Site-Wide CCTV for a Local Charity
A visible deterrent, built to cover a large, spread-out site.
Overview
After a number of attempted break-ins, a local charity asked us to install CCTV across their site as a visible deterrent. The site is large, so this wasn't a case of mounting a couple of cameras near the door — it meant designing a network that could carry video from camera positions spread across the whole site back to a single host, in places with no existing cabling.
The Challenge
The charity had experienced several attempted break-ins and wanted CCTV coverage in place as a deterrent. Because the site is large, camera positions were too far apart and too spread out to cable conventionally — we needed a way to get every camera back to a central recorder without running cable across the entire site.
The Solution
We installed a mix of Reolink IP cameras — PTZ units where wide, adjustable coverage was needed, and fixed bullet cameras for static points of interest. To link camera positions that couldn't be practically cabled, we used MikroTik SXTsq Lite5 outdoor CPE units to create wireless point-to-point links across the site, tied back into a backbone of managed switches. That let us extend the camera network to every part of the site without trenching or long cable runs the terrain and budget didn't allow for.
The Outcome
The charity now has CCTV coverage across the whole site, giving them the visible deterrent they were looking for. This was a one-off, fixed installation rather than an ongoing managed service — once installed and configured, the system runs independently.
